The museum is in the former Methodist
school. It contains a large selection of items connected with the
history of the life and work in the Dales of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale.
If you want to find out about the history of life & the lead mining industry in the
dales, this is the place to come.
The Museum is the base for the 'Friends of the Museum' and their talks and shows
by guest speakers on very varied features of the dales history.
Recently a series of very interesting walks to examine and learn about
the bronze, iron and Romano-British ages' remains in the two dales was lead by
the well known expert and author Tim Laurie. Future similar events are planned.
It is also the venue for a series of events during the Swaledale
Festival.
